SAVE Act is Bad for Business

There’s a “discharge petition” effort currently underway in the U.S. House to try to force a vote on the “SAVE Act” – a bill proposed by Heath Schuler (D-NC) that would put into place a mandatory e-verify system for employers, and make firms comply with an impractical approach to resolving “no match” issues (that is, if an employer receives a “no match” letter from the SSA or DHS regarding an employee’s social security number or employment eligibility.) Unfortunately, some ordinarily pro-business members of Congress are supporting the SAVE Act. For some reason they seem to believe big government will work beautifully for a complex, government-driven system such as e-verify. Click here for the coalition letter from business groups expressing concern about the SAVE Act.
