What's Your Energy IQ?

How much of our energy comes from renewable sources? How much more energy will we need in future decades?

The American Petroleum Institute (API) recently completed a second “energy IQ survey” to help determine what Americans know and don’t know about energy issues. The Harris Interactive survey results showed that the public has become more knowledgeable about key facts and issues. However, the results also demonstrate that we “still have fundamental misperceptions at a time when elected leaders are considering energy policies that could affect our country for decades to come.”

For example, the survey finds: “The majority of people are not aware that current policies restrict access to 85 percent of U.S. offshore areas for the lower 48 states, and they underestimate the amount of oil and natural gas produced in North America.”

How would Congress score on the energy IQ test? The speed and quality of legislative proposals coming from Capitol Hill seem to indicate that many would not score high.

How would you do?
