A Bit of Good Trade News

The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis released the latest trade data for June 2009, and there was a bit of good news.

Specifically, U.S. exports of goods and services increased for the second straight month. Exports registered $121.4 billion in April, and increased to $123.4 billion in May and $125.8 billion in June.

That was the first two-month increase since June and July of 2008.

For good measure, imports rose in June. That was the first increase since July 2008.

Of course, both exports and imports are still down by huge amounts compared to July of last year. But growth has to start somewhere, and hopefully, this is it.
