Small Biz Health Care Daily: Senate Bill and the Construction Industry

So, what do Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and the rest of the Democrats in the U.S. Senate have against the construction industry?

While the bill being pushed in the Senate would hit all businesses hard, construction firms get particularly walloped. It turns out that the bill’s small business exemption does not apply to small firms in the construction industry.

While businesses with fewer than 50 employees are exempt from the fines imposed on those that cannot afford to provide what the government deems acceptable health insurance for their workers, the exemption for construction businesses would only apply to businesses with fewer than five employees.

What’s this all about? Well, since it has nothing to do with economics or the industry itself, it’s obviously a sop to labor unions. It’s all about politics. But then again, this entire effort has nothing to do with sound economics or sound public policy. Instead, it’s all about blind left-wing ideology.
