Small Business and the "Jobs Summit"

President Barack Obama is hosting a “jobs summit” today at the White House. Unfortunately, the nation's jobs creators have not been invited. The President has to understand by now that talking about jobs does not create them.

In reaction to the summit, SBE Council President & CEO Karen Kerrigan issued the following statement:

“The President needs to be talking with the nation’s job creators if he wants to produce a meaningful set of solutions for creating jobs. I do hope there are solid initiatives that emerge from the White House summit, however, if the President is interested in learning why new jobs are not being created he needs to have an honest discussion with small business owners about how the policies he is pushing are keeping entrepreneurs from adding to their payrolls.

“The threat of higher taxes, increased health coverage costs and burdensome regulations and mandates is hurting job creation. Not only do small business owners have low confidence that the economy will not dramatically improve in the coming months, but they believe the policies that President Obama is pursuing will hurt their bottom lines and prevent them from expanding. The bulk of new jobs are generated from small businesses. President Obama needs to understand that he is hurting the prospect for robust job creation through his policies.”
