Small Biz Health Care Daily: HSAs at Risk

An excellent piece by Ron Bachman on “John Goodman’s Health Policy Blog” provides a rundown on how the Senate health care plan places health savings accounts (HSAs) in peril.

This piece warrants reading, as HSAs have provided an important option for businesses and individuals in the health insurance marketplace. Bachman hits on nine areas where HSAs could or would suffer.

Bachman concludes:

The proposed Senate bill is designed to delay, deny, defeat and kill HSAs. It is a death by a thousand slices. Why? Maybe it’s because consumerism puts decisions and power in the hands of individuals. The Senate health reform does not focus on improving health or health care. It is more about political power, centralizing federal control, growing government, and expanding bureaucracies. Economically, they are killing the goose that laid the golden egg. Killing HSAs is only a part of that strategy.
