Small Business Goes to Washington

As Kent Hoover points out in an October 29 piece for Portfolio.com, there are a record number of small business owners running for Congress this year.

In fact, “small business owner” is the dominant “career position” of non-incumbents running for the U.S. House of Representatives. “More than 100 small-business owners will be on Tuesday's ballot in House races. That's not counting the House incumbents and state and local officials who have small-business experience,” writes Hoover.

In the analysis conducted by the American City Business Journals, it was also reported that an additional 26 House candidates have executive experience at larger enterprises. It could very well be that Tuesday’s elections usher in a wealth of business experience on Capitol Hill (at least in the U.S. House) not witnessed in a long time (if ever!).
