Hope lingered in the markets that the monthly change in payrolls in December might have turned positive. But that was not the case.
Actually, revised payroll numbers pointed to the tiniest of increases in November - a mere 4,000. But for December, payrolls resumed their decline, falling by 85,000. Private payrolls were flat for November, and down by 64,000 in December.
But the big news for December showed up in the household survey, and that news was not good...
